😴 Covid, Grandpa Simpson and The Godfather 🙌
Narcolepsy and other some other stuff
Covid is weird. It’s all-consuming.
I’m all jabbed up so in the main it was like a really bad cold. But what really hit me was the fatigue.
I turned into Grandpa Simpson. For several days anytime I sat down, even in my office chair, I would wake up often hours later with no recollection of even feeling tired.
Mental. That has now mercifully passed.
But no article this week…
Huge Thanks
31 of you lovely people joined The Fucked Up Club. A huge thanks to everyone who embraced their vulnerability and responded
Everything is confidential but what was interesting of the 31 fuck ups reported, was 26 of them were the regrets of not taking opportunities/ action due to fears and imposter syndrome.
Only 5 fuck ups were due to readers taking action and actually fucking it up.
It’s often the things we know we should do but we’re too scared to act on that fuck everything up.
Imposter Syndrome
Everyone gets imposter syndrome. It’s normal.
Paradoxically, in my experience with working with elite high achievers, they often get it more.
If you’re not feeling uncomfortable then you’re coasting. If you’re coasting then you’re not growing. And if you’re not growing…well….
The truth is humans are highly adaptable. Being unfamiliar with the status quo means you aren’t shackled by the parameters of conventional wisdom.
Being naive can be a competitive advantage.
Quentin Tarantino didn’t go to film school and Heston Blumenthal became one of the world’s best chefs with no training or experience.
Here’s a cute story to highlight this:
According to his interview with NPR, Mario Puzo, author of The Godfather was asked to adapt his books to film.
He found it an uncomfortable experience as he didn’t know what he was doing. He had never written a screenplay before.
Nonetheless, he completed the project. Everyone seemed happy. Especially after the film won two Oscars.
Mario still felt insecure. Wanting to improve his skills he bought a book on screenwriting. The lesson in chapter 1? “Study Godfather I”
The only rule in creativity is there are no rules in creativity.
Have a great week.
Stay healthy and if you can’t stay healthy; stay awake.
